“… as she listened closely, she overheard them talking about her…”
This was the prompt for the December Society of Visual Storytelling competition. My initial idea involved pigeons and an older lady but I wasn’t sure where to draw the line between her imagining the birds are talking about her and showing them actively doing some gossiping, or even plotting. Maybe to steal her sandwiches.
At first I tried to combine #6 and #9 but wasn’t happy with the direction it was going.
So, eventually I went back to the thumbnails and developed #11 into the final image. I spent a long time playing around with her expression – tiny changes in the shape and placement of her features completely changed her perceived reaction to the situation. I chose this slightly ambiguous, confused / bemused expression.
